You have finally completed your rehab program. You should feel proud of yourself for getting this far, as not everyone can accomplish what you just did. Although your program lasted one to two months, sobriety is a lifelong commitment with a few ups and downs. If you just finished our addiction treatment in Ohio and you’re reading this, it’s because you want to take the right steps to ensure a successful recovery. You have coping skills you were taught in rehab, so use them throughout your journey.
It’s true, life can be a little more stressful than rehab and it is also brimming with triggers and temptations. With the skills you have learned in rehab and a reliable support group, you’ll be able to create new routines and accomplish your goals successfully.
Go To Therapy
Structure your life with support systems that will prevent relapse, such as one on one therapy. Find a cognitive behavioral therapist to help continue the work you started at Lumiere Healing Centers, or continue your therapy journey on an outpatient level at Lumiere Healing Centers. In rehab, you most likely addressed underlying issues that caused your addiction, recognized triggers, and developed coping skills to manage difficult situations. With your therapist, you can delve deeper than that, by exploring your emotions and learning new therapeutic methods to handle life on the outside.

Join Our Aftercare and Alumni Program
Even though you have left Lumiere, you’re still a part of the family. We will provide you with contact information to get in touch with one of our trained alumni coordinators who can help you navigate the post-treatment transition and potential triggers. The coordinator will also contact you to check-in and see how things are going, keeping the line of communication open. This is just one essential source of support. We also encourage you to join our alumni group, which has several additional benefits.

- Coordinate social activities, like movie nights
- Stay updated on upcoming events at the center
- Share your story with the group to motivate others

Make New Friends
During your addiction treatment in Ohio, you identified triggers in your life that pushed you to addictive behavior.
Did any of these triggers include your friends?
Friends can be an influential part of our lives, but if they aren’t influencing us in a positive way, it’s time to cut the cord and make new connections. If your friends are continuing a lifestyle you’re trying to leave behind, like going to parties, drinking, and doing drugs, then you’ll find it difficult to stay sober. If you find a new group of sober friends, not only will you receive much-needed support, but you eliminate temptation.
Focus On Your Health
It can be stressful returning to an old routine. You may feel frustrated and anxious because it seems easy to fall back into old habits. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed and burdened by the situation. You may even experience more frequent days where you feel unmotivated and depressed. Push away your despair, frustration, and anxiety with healthy activities. Take up meditation or start exercising in the mornings. Not only is this good for your body, but your mind, too.
Regularly schedule checkups with a health professional and let them know if you’re experiencing negative effects from your years of substance abuse. For example, individuals who abuse harmful substances develop sleeping and breathing problems. If you experience anything that’s not conducive to a healthy lifestyle, tell your doctor about it.
Help Someone Else
It is so important to be surrounded by individuals who want to get better, just like you. You may even find it beneficial to the recovery process if you share your own experiences and encourage others to stay on track. You don’t necessarily have to become a sponsor, as this may be challenging right out of rehab, but you can motivate people by sharing your struggles, current sobriety, and the coping skills that have helped you most along the way.
